Paper Mache & Washi Tape

Being that I'm hosting a Washi Tape Mania party, I wanted to do another quick project to inspire each of you.  I took a run to Michael's in hopes of finding the crafting tape that others have been posting about.  No luck.  Sometimes I hate asking for help, because 9 times out of 10 they tell me 'no' and minutes thereafter I find it.  Rolling eyes, right?

This visit was no exception.  I asked.  They said, "No."  So, I kept strolling down all of the aisles until I stumbled upon some tissue tape by Jim Holtz idea-ology line.  Oh my goodness cute and it had a vintage flair.  Win-Win!!  This stuff is not cheap, but I justified it with a coupon {smile}.  So, let's grab our supplies and get this project started.

Supplies:
Paper Mache boxes
 Washi/Crafting/Tissue Tape
and an Exacto knife.
We then start to wrap.
You're going to wrap the tape from one side down
and around to the other side and trim.
And you'll do this until you can't see your kraft colored box anymore.
So far, So easy.  Right?

Once the bottom is covered, you can call it quits and fall in {love} with the
mis-matched packaging as seen below --or-- you can move on to the lid.
I had planned all along to do the entire box.
Alrighty then,  let's move on to the lid.  Soooo, you can do this one of two ways.
Start by wrapping the tape around the lip/edging of the lid of the box as you can see
below --or-- you can do the side to side taping first to cover the top.  Either way,
you're going to have to do the lip/edging.  When you do it is completely up to you!

After you've placed your tape on the lip/edging, you'll want to make a slit in
all four corners of the tape with your exacto knife (see below).
Then you'll press each flap over and down like so.
I did the lip, then the side to side to cover the top of the box and another layer on the lip.
I really liked how this tape layered.  However, everything is really a matter of preference
to your specific project.  Isn't that great?  There's so much freedom in art and crafting.

Once you've folded over all four sides -- your box is done!
I quickly moved on to box number two.
....and Voila!
Have you linked up your Washi projects yet?
The party is open until Tuesday, April 17th.

 I'll be partying {here, here and here}.
Have a super lovely weekend!  See you next week!

  1. Adorable and SO beautifully styled in your photos! I ended up finding the crafting tape in a section of their newest products (card blanks, stamps, printed cardstock and ink). It was on a display in the middle of the aisles.

  10. I love this and I happen to have that exact tape sitting around, I had ordered it from Stamoington for another project and them couldn't get the other pieces I needed, now I know what to use it for! I love the uses people are coming up with for Washi tape, it is inspiring. I am glad it isn't just my Michaels that has such crummy customer service, at least I am not suffering alone! I have begun to order online a lot more, I get better service and better prices!

  18. I so sad. I just found you. I am a washi tape fanatic and I was too late for the party. Boo-hoo. I love your gift box. I use washi tape on small glassine envelopes that I also stamp. I put small notes (from images I get from The Graphics Fairy) in each. Try Pretty Tape (Facebook) also known as cutetape.com (i think- I have her on speed dial for quick ordering!) Happy taping!
